SayOutLoud — Privacy Policy
Effective 4 August 2026
The short version
SayOutLoud collects nothing, sends nothing, and tracks nobody.
Everything you type, every phrase you set up, and every photo you add stays on the device you added it to. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, and no advertising. The app has no network access whatsoever — not restricted, not optional, simply absent — so there is no mechanism by which your information could leave your device, even accidentally.
That is unusual enough to be worth stating plainly: this policy is short because there is genuinely nothing to disclose.
What is stored on your device
SayOutLoud saves a small amount of information so your setup is still there next time you open it:
The words on each quick-read cell, and what each one speaks
Which picture or symbol each cell uses
Photos you have chosen for cells, copied into the app's own storage
Your settings: how many cells are shown, the chosen voice, the speaking rate, and the text size
This is held in the app's private storage area on your device. Other apps cannot read it. It is included in your device's own backups if you back your device up, in the same way as any other app's data — those backups are handled by Apple or by whatever backup method you use, under their terms, not ours.
What is not stored
What you type in the writing area is never saved. It exists only while the app is open, and it is gone the moment the app quits. Nothing you say through this app is recorded, logged, or kept — not a history, not a draft, not a transcript.
Photos
When you add a photo to a cell, you pick it using the system photo picker. SayOutLoud is never granted access to your photo library. It receives only the single image you chose, and copies that one image into its own storage.
Removing a photo from a cell, or resetting the cells, deletes that copy from your device.
Speech
Speech is produced by the built-in speech synthesis in macOS, using the voices installed on your device. SayOutLoud passes your text to the operating system to be spoken aloud through your speakers. It does not send that text anywhere else, and it has no ability to.
No tracking, no analytics, no third parties
No analytics or crash-reporting services
No advertising, and no advertising identifiers
No third-party code or software development kits of any kind
No tracking of you across other apps, websites, or devices
No profiling, and no automated decisions about you
Children
SayOutLoud collects no personal information from anyone, of any age. There is no sign-up, no profile, and nothing transmitted, so there is nothing for a child, a parent, or a guardian to consent to or request the deletion of.
Deleting your information
Deleting the app removes everything it stored, permanently. There is no copy held anywhere else, because no copy was ever sent anywhere else.
To clear your setup without deleting the app, open Settings and choose Reset to starter cells. This removes every photo you added and every word you changed.
Your rights
Data protection laws such as the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal information a company holds about you. We hold none. Every piece of information described above is on your own device, under your control, and can be changed or deleted by you at any time without asking us.
We do not sell or share personal information, because we never receive any.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of SayOutLoud ever adds a feature that changes any of the above — syncing between devices, for example — this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the effective date at the top will change.
